National Children’s Alliance
Empowering Local Communities to Serve Child Victims of Abuse

Building Awareness Through an Optimized Online Experience

In 2013, a group of local volunteers filmed a Public Service Announcement that encouraged people to step up and speak out about child abuse. The PSA caught the attention of the National Children’s Alliance, which took the opportunity to build a campaign around that PSA message. The organization came to Fishnet to help get the effort off the ground with a campaign website, and the partnership has only grown from there. Fishnet created the website, as well as microsites for each Children’s Alliance chapter across the country. The sites, specifically the search functionality, were built for the user so anyone can quickly and easily access the information and resources they need.

Engagement

Planning

Fishnet initially designed and developed a microsite that acted as a platform for the National Children’s Alliance’s PSA-inspired campaign, Help Victims Become Survivors. As interest grew, Fishnet built a custom campaign website. Understanding that the focus was awareness-building and providing resources and advocacy, Fishnet developed site functionality that would create a positive and supportive experience for both victims and advocates.

Creating

The campaign website included a built-in application for people to take an online pledge of support, as well as functionality to showcase supporters’ profiles on a tiled virtual wall. As the campaign developed, Fishnet added a testimonials section for users to record their personal stories or pledge their support. In creating the site, Fishnet was also purposeful in the color palate and look and feel so as to emphasize being a survivor, not a victim.

Deploying

The campaign website launched in April, which is also Child Abuse Awareness Month. The timing helped put immediate attention on the Help Victims Become Survivors campaign, and led to Fishnet’s involvement in creating and launching microsites for the Children’s Alliance chapters across the country. The microsites all contain a landing page with the PSA to help drive traffic back to the main campaign page. Fishnet is currently redesigning the National Children’s Alliance main website.

We are just so touched by the incredible work Fishnet did to help promote our campaign and raise awareness about the crucial issue of providing justice and healing for child victims of abuse. Taking that wonderful PSA and raising it to the level we did was something we never could have accomplished without Fishnet’s help. We have great engagement with the campaign through the website and its unique features, and we’re excited to continue working with Fishnet on ways to keep getting our message out.
