We’ve all heard it been said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression and considering that welcome messages have one of the highest open rates of all email campaigns, well, here’s your chance!  If you are not capitalizing on this great opportunity to reach customers when they are most likely to respond then what are you waiting for?  Here are some tips for giving your customers a warm welcome that will keep them coming back for more…

Don’t deviate.
The welcome message (or series of messages) should stick to greeting your new subscriber; this is not the time to work in other promos or campaigns.

Stand out.
Be sure to use clear subject lines and try to include “welcome message”.  If you will be sending a series of messages include the number in the series.

Customize your message.
Segment your audience with messages that take into consideration how and when they signed up.  If they subscribed after making a purchase you could include information on subscriber benefits, if they joined your list without making a purchase you could include a special offer to entice a first sale.

Be prompt.
Set up your emails in advance to be sent automatically when triggered, this will ensure the message is sent on time – when it is most effective.

Make a plan.
Set your goals (brand enforcement, subscriber loyalty, etc.) and determine the right number of messages, as well as when each should be sent.  The first message should always be sent as soon as they subscribe, and if you will be sending a series let them know what is coming down the line.

Creating an effective welcome message goes beyond sending the warm and fuzzies. Greeting your new subscribers when they are most likely to listen can go a long way in building brand advocates and long-term customers.  Let us help you pull together your welcome message content and strategy!  Contact us today.
